HOLLYWOOD (March 22, 2021) – This Friday in the heart of Hollywood, seven local restaurants are partnering to support the Hollywood PAL Youth Run Team – as they prepare to complete the life-changing experience of finishing (“virtually”), the LA marathon on Sunday in Griffith Park.  The Hollywood PAL LA Marathon Carbo-Load Dinner will take place Friday, March 26, at 6:30 pm at Wood & Vine (6280 Hollywood Blvd @Vine Street).

Wood & Vine hosts Hollywood PAL’s “Carbo Load” dinner annually. The dinner historically takes place the Friday night before the LA Marathon, to prepare the participants for the run. This year, our runners will have an extra special experience as six other local favorites have stepped up to support our kids. They will be tasting a selection of carbohydrate-heavy cuisine from multiple Hollywood restaurants including Pinks, Fabiolus Cucina, L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele, McDonalds, Northern Cafe, St. Felix and Wood & Vine. Proper Parking is generously hosting parking for the attendees.

In collaboration with Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA), an organization that challenges underserved secondary students by providing access to train and complete the Los Angeles Marathon, our Hollywood PAL Run Team has been wholeheartedly training for the Marathon since last August. Always following Covid safety guidelines, our kids trained on their own and in small groups over the past eight months, building up the strength, endurance, and perseverance needed to complete 26.2 miles.  This year’s run team is 15 participants, ages 12-17.

With the LA Marathon postponed until the fall, SRLA participants are allowed to complete their marathon in a virtual format, recording and reporting their distance and time electronically.  However it’s still not something you can do alone, and local volunteers and restaurants are stepping in to help.

“When I think of all these restaurants – having been closed for much of the last year and having their own struggles – immediately stepping up and wanting to support our kids, I am so moved.” said Kitty Gordillo, Executive Director. “The Hollywood community amazes me with its kindness, and willingness to make something special happen for its diverse youth.”
