Our SRLA kids have been through it all this year. From the LA Marathon and every other benchmark achievement thus far, they’ve hit so many characterizing milestones that they’ll carry with them. They closed out the season with a 5K and celebrated afterwards with a barbeque at Griffith Park, getting the chance to sit back and reflect on a job well done with their peers and coaches. The medals and ribbons won are a beautiful reminder of the work they put into the year, but the bonds these youths have fostered coupled with their ever-climbing endurance and fervor for the sport is what truly shines.

Even though that was supposed to be their last run for the season, the kids were invited to participate in the Special Olympics Southern California Torch Run, a tremendous honor! They ran four miles on Sunset from east LA to west LA, Vermont Ave to Laurel Canyon, receiving supportive “honks,” “whoops,” and “hollers” from other pedestrians and car goers. It was a demonstrative show of community as they each took turns running with the lit ten-pound torch, sharing smiles, and giving it their all!

We are proud of these kids and can’t wait to see just how far they’ll run next year!
