Though mentoring has come to a close for the year, the kids were asked some of their thoughts about the Mentoring Program here at PAL and the feedback was uplifting. Many of our youth in the program shared a resounding opinion that they could all benefit from meeting up more frequently. Noting how they have all made strides this year, hitting new goals and trying new things, they figured that meeting once a week was just the tip of the iceberg.
Not only that, they want to meet in person more often! Proving further the value there is to be gained from listening to more guest speakers and meaningful field trips. Some of the kids noted that their favorite field trips have been to Amy’s Garden, where they discuss in depth the lessons in life that are often reflected in the care and dedication it takes to tend to one’s own garden. They’ve learned both life skills as well as developing a “green thumb” of their own, adding to their thirst for knowledge and application.
Other remarks the kids have made was that the Mentoring program had become a haven for which they feel safe to express themselves and share their experiences and troubles in a way where they know they’ll be heard. It’s a place they can escape to when life overwhelms them and they need a trusted adult who can guide them through it. They’ve said it’s therapeutic as well as relaxing, and we couldn’t have asked for a better description of what it is we aim to provide to these kids through the Mentoring program.
Since the beginning of the year, the program has nearly tripled in size and we’re humbled to be able to reach so many youths! In 2025, we aim to grow even more!
Cheers to another year of growth and impact!
