Hollywood PAL Run Club initially kicked off this new program in late July. We began the program with 30 kids (three small groups) practicing one hour per week in Griffith Park. Our training sessions follow social distanced stretching and running and youth are encouraged to run on their own or with family members at least one more day per week. These dedicated runners ages 11-17 showed dedication and built strength and endurance while increasing distances and speed towards personal goals.
On August 31st, twenty-seven PAL Run Club members finished their first 5K Run. It was completed during regular practice and the outcomes were fantastic. This was a first-time experience for 12 or our kids. The experienced runners finished in 30 minutes or less then encouraged their clubmates across the virtual finish line. Every participant received a medal and training shirt. We look forward to helping them continue to train for other runs as they develop self-discipline and hone their running skills.
