On Friday, July 18th, the Hollywood PAL Board of Directors hosted a very special lunch at the Firehouse Memorial Museum, in honor of PAL’s 9 scholarship recipients. Representatives from Councilmember O’Farrell’s office attended to present certificates of honor signed by Councilmember LaBonge and Councilmember O’Farrell, as well as other important members of the PAL family such as Thad Smith, Fariba Kalantari, Kambiz Batmangelich and of course, Captain Peter Zarcone to name a few. After the awards were presented, 3 PAL alumni were recognized as well for having completed their college degrees (and a masters). Ivette Aragon, Karen Aragon, and Jamecelle Ventura gave advice to the young college freshman and then thanked the PAL Scholarship Committee and Board for continuing to support them beyond being a “pal kid.” Thank you to Fabioulus Cucina for providing lunch, the Firehouse Memorial Museum for hosting us, and to our esteemed Scholarship Committee members: Donelle Dadigan, Terri Tilton, Jason Hariton and David Bradley.

The Youth Leadership Council started a recycling program two months ago at the police station and has been collecting, sorting and cashing in every week. The idea was to help the environment, while also raising money for Relay for Life and its cancer research. Last week, YLC organized 3 drop-off days and did a big push, encouraging PAL families and local businesses to participate as well. They raised over $700, which will be donated to cancer research. Now they are on to their next volunteer project… got any suggestions?

Tommy generously asked friends and family to donate to PAL in lieu of gifts, and thus raised $3,990 for Hollywood PAL! This amount indirectly covers the cost of our soccer field for 2 months, without which we could not serve our 8 soccer teams (150 players). A big thank you to Tommy and the following friends and family who donated to PAL in his honor.
