Gary Taglyan and his staff at the Taglyan Cultural Center partnered with City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell to provide Thanksgiving Lunch to the families of Hollywood PAL and the Hollywood Boys & Girls Club. Nearly 400 guests attended and enjoyed a delicious meal, creative entertainment and free raffle prizes. Members of the community came out to help serve food and celebrate our community. We are very thankful for our community support.
On November 22, USC invited Hollywood PAL to bring a bus load of families to USC for lunch and a basketball game! Not only did our kids have a blast eating a delicious feast and watching the USC girls team dominate the basketball court, but they went home with toys and goodies as well. Thank you for giving back to the Los Angeles community and inspiring our kids by bringing them to your campus.
On November 8, 2014, Hollywood PAL joined the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council and the Council District 13 office for their monthly Community Clean-Up. Hollywood PAL’s Youth Leadership Council, various families, and Captain Storaker represented Hollywood PAL and were joined by friends from LAPD Northeast Division, Immigrants Charitable Foundation, Thai Rotary Club, PATH, East Hollywood -Los Feliz Homeless Coalition and other community members. PAL’s families enjoyed giving back and getting to know our community partners.
On October 8th, 2014, Hollywood PAL hosted 330 guests at the Taglyan Cultural Center for the 11th Annual PAL Awards Gala. Our guests of honors, Maureen Schultz from Capitol Records and Brian Stewart from AmGraph, were awarded with Hollywood PAL Community Leadership Awards, and Councilmember Tom LaBonge also received special recognition from Hollywood PAL – the first ever Tom LaBonge Heart of Hollywood Award for his efforts to create a safe and healthy environment for the kids of Hollywood. Four PAL kids received certificates of recognition – Margarita Batres, Daniela Ramos, Yeaotzin Resendiz, and Lazaro Veliz. The lovely Mary Beth McDade emceed the affair, and our pal Jack McGee had us on the edge of our seats for the live auction. This year’s theme was Oktoberfest and many guests got into the spirit by dressing up, as they enjoyed a traditional Bavarian feast!

Hollywood PAL’s Youth Leadership Council began a recycling program last April in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society through their Relay for Life event which took place in Hollywood on August 23. In 3 months, they raised $600 for the cause and hand delivered the check on September 16th. To show their appreciation for our kids’ efforts, the Relay for Life staff gave YLC a personal tour of their offices and services, met with cancer survivors and researchers, and were presented with a certificate of appreciation. YLC will move on to their next community service project, but plan to support Relay for Life again next year.
On Thursday, November 6th, Buffalo Wild Wings in Hollywood is helping Hollywood PAL to raise money for its after-school programs! Eat lunch, dinner, a snack, a drink, anything you want between 11am and 2am, and 10% of your bill will be donated back to Hollywood PAL! All you have to do is present this Buffalo Wild Wings Flyer! Thank you for your support. Please spread the word and make plans to eat for PAL on Thursday!
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation presented ten community organizations with $21,500 in grants at the September mixer at OHM Nightclub – one of which was Hollywood PAL! Hollywood Chamber Community Foundation board member Marty Shelton presented checks to the following organizations: Assistance League of Southern California for Operation Bell on wheels; Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood for their music program; Dress for Success Worldwide for replacement of two computers for their Career Center; The Harmony Project for purchase of new instruments for their Hollywood Program Hub; Hollywood Arts Council for art supplies for Project SOAR; Hollywood Heritage, Inc. for restoration of external exhibition area of museum; Hollywood PAL for their Martial Arts Program; NewFilmmakers L.A. towards hiring a full time employee who will aid in expanding Core Program; Project Angel Food to continue providing and delivering cooked meals to people with HIV/AIDS who are too weak to care for themselves; Stella Adler Theatre for their Community Outreach Program. On August 17th, the famous El Capitan Theatre invited PAL kids and their families, as well as LAPD Hollywood Officers and their families, to see Disney’s “Planes Fire & Rescue”. Over 600 guests attended and enjoyed a Live Stage show featuring MICKEY MOUSE and Friends and MICKEY MOUSE short “Mickey’s Fire Brigade” prior to movie. This was the second time that El Capitan Theatre has hosted a PAL family movie night. The first was a VIP viewing of “Million Dollar Arm.” We are truly grateful for El Capitan’s generous hospitality, sharing their magical theatre with the entire Hollywood community.
On August 3rd, Hollywood PAL sent 23 competitors to the 50th anniversary of the Long Beach Internationals Tournament. The kids competed in 3 categories, 2 forms and 1 sparring. The group took home over 20 medals!
K&L Wines hosted its annual Champagne Tent Event on Saturday, October 18th at its Hollywood store, 1400 Vine Street, and a great time was had by all who attended this sold out event! The store’s favorite artisan growers and producers brought over 60 varieties exclusively for this event. Guests included Caroline and Paul Ariston from Ariston Aspasie, Elisabeth Goutorbe from Elisabeth Goutorbe, Quentin Paillard from Pierre Paillard, Bruno Lemoine from Fleury, Olivier and Delphine Bonville from Franck Bonville, Severine Launois from Launois and Eric de Brisis from Baron Fuente and Martine and Michael Loriot from Loriot. As well as, big-name producers: Louis Roederer, Billecart-Salmon, Laurent Perrier, Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Krug, Perrier-Jouët, Delamotte, Taittinger , Gosset, Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck.
Proceeds from the event were generously donated to the Hollywood Police Activities League. A donation of this size, indirectly funds the cost of our soccer program (160 kids) for 1 month.
