By being a part of the Police Activities League (PAL), you are helping yourself, your family and your community. For those reasons, a specially coordinated national preview of the movie, McFARLAND USA, gave pal kids the opportunity to see an inspirational film about the true story of a coach and his cross country team. On Saturday, February 7th, 2015, pals gathered in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Houston, Fresno, San Francisco and Los Angeles, getting the VIP treatment at their local Regal Theatre as well as featured on their local ABC news.

In Los Angeles, El Capitan hosted over 700 pals and sals (Sherriff’s Activities League). Kids came from Hollywood, Hollenbeck, Pasadena, Devonshire, Newton, Palmdale, Century, Compton, Lakewood, and Norwalk. Social media was all a buzz as kids responded to the themes of the movie: commitment to one’s community, the power of relationships, overcoming the odds… We all strongly recommend going to see the film when it opens February 20th!

On Saturday, January 31st, 50 Pals and Cadets loaded onto a bus and headed to the Coliseum to run the AltaMed 5K which was then followed by an all-day health expo featuring a Youth Mindfulness Session led by former NFL player and yogi, Keith Mitchell. The kids had a wonderful time exploring the yoga tents, LA Galaxy obstacle course, and other interactive booths. It was an honor to be included in the event.

On November 22, USC invited Hollywood PAL to bring a bus load of families to USC for lunch and a basketball game!  Not only did our kids have a blast eating a delicious feast and watching the USC girls team dominate the basketball court, but they went home with toys and goodies as well. Thank you for giving back to the Los Angeles community and inspiring our kids by bringing them to your campus.

On October 8th, 2014, Hollywood PAL hosted 330 guests at the Taglyan Cultural Center for the 11th Annual PAL Awards Gala. Our guests of honors, Maureen Schultz from Capitol Records and Brian Stewart from AmGraph, were awarded with Hollywood PAL Community Leadership Awards, and Councilmember Tom LaBonge also received special recognition from Hollywood PAL – the first ever Tom LaBonge Heart of Hollywood Award for his efforts to create a safe and healthy environment for the kids of Hollywood. Four PAL kids received certificates of recognition – Margarita Batres, Daniela Ramos, Yeaotzin Resendiz, and Lazaro Veliz. The lovely Mary Beth McDade emceed the affair, and our pal Jack McGee had us on the edge of our seats for the live auction. This year’s theme was Oktoberfest and many guests got into the spirit by dressing up, as they enjoyed a traditional Bavarian feast!

The Hollywood PAL Board of Directors and PAL Awards Committee would like to thank everyone who attended or contributed to this important fundraiser. We are truly thankful for our community partners who help us to serve the children of Hollywood by developing trusting relationships between cops and kids.
